For the month of April, I’ve been experimenting with Kroger’s ClickList, essentially ordering my groceries online and picking them up curbside. Before the twins, I used to grocery shop by myself and take as much or as little time as needed. But now, obviously it’s a different story. Unless I want to attempt taking two newborns by myself, or ask Hubby if he can watch them while I go alone, my only option is to go as a family. This results in longer and more expensive shopping trips (impulse buys x2), and Mint was constantly yelling at me for going over my grocery budget each month.
With ClickList, I can shop by myself in the comfort of my own home. As I add items to my cart, I can see an estimated total right then and there. If my total starts getting too high, removing items is a breeze to keep costs under control. During the week I’ll jot down items I run out of or know I need to buy, so when I’m preparing my next order, these items get added first. Then I make my way to previously ordered items to see if I’m forgetting anything. If I’m questioning whether I already have that item at home or not, I simply get up and walk to the fridge/freezer or pantry and check; I find myself doing this a lot. 😋
ClickList does come at a price. There is a service fee of $4.95 (may vary by location), but your first three order fees are waived. I decided to take advantage of this and try out the service.
Truth be told, my first experience was terrible. I pulled up into a designated parking spot for ClickList customers, and I called the number posted to let them know I had arrived. There was only one other ClickList customer before me, and then two additional customers pulled up after me. They all got served before me. 😡 Finally after 30 minutes I called the number again to see what was going on; surely this wasn’t normal. The employee apologized and said they were literally coming out with my order right then and that they were giving me 10% off and waiving my order fee (even though it was suppose to be free anyway). Perhaps I had just caught them at a bad time.
Despite my first encounter, I decided to give the service a second (and third) chance since I still had two fee-free orders. I’m so glad I did because they were much better experiences! The second time I was in and out within 4 minutes of arriving, and the third time I actually arrived ahead of schedule (you’re suppose to pick a one hour time slot, and I arrived at 4:30 instead of 5-6), yet they still brought me my order within a matter of minutes.
So here’s my conclusion…
I find ClickList to be time-saving, convenient, and budget conscious.
Honestly, besides the off chance you’ll have to wait, the amount of time you’ll save from physically having to go into the store and do the shopping yourself outweighs the risks.
