How I Increased My Milk Supply by Nearly 10 oz a Day

milkflow

You may remember me stressing about my milk supply the other week. I’m so blessed I’ve been able to exclusively breastfeed my twins who are now four months old, but being a working mom and pumping at work is the most challenging part of continuing to breastfeed. God forbid I miss a pump session; I feel like it throws off my milk supply for days to come.

I started talking to a friend about my struggles. She also exclusively breastfeeds her daughter who is the same age as my twins. She mentioned a “berry drink” that is suppose to help you produce more milk. It’s UpSpring’s Milkflow™ fenugreek and blessed thistle powder berry drink mix. I was hesitant to try this drink mix because fenugreek and blessed thistle didn’t exactly scream tasty. But my friend vouched for its effectiveness and taste, so I pulled the trigger and ordered a box. It cost $15 for 18 packets, which comes out to $0.83 a packet. The instructions say to mix one packet daily with 8-12 oz of cold water or juice and mix vigorously. You can increase as needed, but shouldn’t consume more than three packets a day.

I received my order on a Saturday. Both Saturday and Sunday I mixed just one packet with a water bottle (16.7 fl oz). By the end of the weekend I hadn’t noticed any increase yet. All the reviews said it practically worked instantly, so when Monday afternoon came and I still felt like I was producing the same, I decided to up it to two packets, one in the morning and one at night.

Holy cow did that work! Come Tuesday I was definitely producing more ounces per pump session. Now that I’ve had a full work week to see how the drink affects my supply, on average I’m probably getting 10 oz more a day.

And the taste! Not bad at all! Obviously I’m diluting it more than the instructions say, but I don’t mind it. A lot of the reviews compare it to watered down Kool-Aid.

Would I recommend this product to other breastfeeding moms looking to increase their milk supply? 110% absolutely! I ordered two more boxes for my Amazon Subscribe & Save order for this month. Even at $15/box full price, Hubby said, “It’s cheaper than formula!”
